Hong Kong developer Gamespire launched its own entry into the mix earlier this year for Android devices. Now Apple users can get in on the action, as Tower Defense Generals storms onto iOS.

If you’re au fait with TD, you’ll know the basic idea is to use defensive units to keep your base safe. Tower Defense Generals puts you in charge of protecting a colony from the enemy. Battalions of tanks, armoured cars, drones and more roll up in waves, unleashing their combined firepower on your towers in an effort to bypass defences and breach the colony walls. You’ve got to stop their advances.

How do you do that? By blowing stuff up, of course. You can choose from 12 different defensive towers, equipped with weaponry ranging from lasers to missile launchers. Deploy them strategically in order to stop the enemy in their tracks, and use reinforcements wisely. If you let one of the 20 types of invading units pass your defences and enter the gateway to your compound, you’ll lose a life, and lives are finite. If you manage to blow them all to smithereens, though, you’ll fill your war chest with dollars to spend on upgrades, and achieve a coveted five star rating for the mission.

There are currently 26 levels to tackle, crossing tough terrain ranging from frozen tundra to arid desert, all rendered in 3D and HD. You’ve also got three different difficulty levels to test your mettle.

So if you’re up for the challenge of keeping the colonies safe, you can download now Tower Defense Generals free for iOS or Android.
